BioBlitz Presentation Generates Interest and Recruits Volunteers

James Fischer, WMCC Research Director, will be presenting "Biological Recognizance:  Value of Species Inventory and Monitoring" at Litchfield Hills Audubon Society's Annual Spring Potluck supper/meeting.  The program is open to the public and is held at 6:30 p.m. at the Litchfield Community Center, 421 Bantam Rd. (S.R. 202), Litchfield, CT.  The program is designed to generate more interest and recruit volunteers for White Memorial's BioBlitz.  Be sure to bring your favorite dish to share and don’t forget your place setting (utensils and plate).  

Thinking about volunteering and want to know how you can help the BioBlitz?

There are a variety of ways that Volunteers can help the BioBlitz be a successful event. 

• Help scientists with their work, they'll be more than willing to give you directions.
• Lead nature walks and other activities for members of the general public.
• Facilitate the Pop-Up Natural History Museum by encouraging people to observe the organisms, answering questions, having conversations with members of the general public.
• Lead tours through the Conservation Center (museum).
• Helping with general logistics, for example helping conservation organizations set-up and tear down their table displays and answering questions of the general public about facilities and directions. 
• Databasing species tallied by scientists.
• Facebook page coordinator during the event. 
• Helping record video and take photographs for the event. 
• Many More!

Saving Walton Pond Program

Wednesday 20 March 2013, 7:00 p.m., A. B. Ceder Classroom, The White Memorial Conservation Center, Inc.  

Judy Witzke, Winding Trails Naturalist, tells the amazing story of how she and an army of volunteers executed a seemingly impossible task of catching and cataloging every living creature at Walton Pond in preparation for dredging and cleaning this body of water.  The story will amaze you!

This program is the first of series of lectures designed to demonstrate the value of biological inventory and monitoring.  If you are interested in helping with the BioBlitz, please attend this program to learn more about it.
